EF-Hand Domain C-Terminal Containing Protein 2 (EFHC2)

By searching databases for sequences similar to EFHC1, Gu et al. (2005) identified EFHC2. The deduced protein contains 3 DM10 domains, followed by 3 putative EF-hand motifs. EFHC2 shares 41.6% amino acid similarity with EFHC1. RT-PCR detected EFHC2 expression in brain.

Weiss et al. (2007) noted that the predicted 2.5-kb EFHC2 transcript, which encodes a deduced 749-amino acid protein, is widely expressed in peripheral tissues and central nervous system. EFHC2 orthologs are found in diverse species, including Drosophila and Danio.Gu et al. (2005) determined that the EFHC2 gene contains 15 exons and spans 195 kb.
