Swiprosin 2 (SWS2)

EFHD1; EF-Hand Domain Family, Member D1

Swiprosin 2 (SWS2)
EFHD1 is an EF-hand domain-containing protein that displays increased expression during neuronal differentiation. The deduced 240-amino acid mouse protein has a calculated molecular mass of 27 kD. Efhd1 contains 2 putative EF-hand motifs, a putative coiled-coil region, and 7 potential phosphorylation sites. Northern blot analysis of mouse tissues detected high expression in testis, followed by ovary, kidney, cerebrum, cerebellum, heart, liver, and spleen. Northern blot analysis of developing cerebrum and cerebellum showed progressively upregulated expression of Efhd1 during postnatal development. Southern blot analysis characterized Efhd1 as a single-copy gene. In situ hybridization of adult mouse brain detected expression primarily in neurons of the cerebellum, cerebrum, and hippocampus, with little expression in white matter.
