Elastin Microfibril Interface Located Protein 2 (EMILIN2)

FOAP-10; Elastin Microfibril Interfacer 2

Elastin Microfibril Interface Located Protein 2 (EMILIN2)
EMILIN2 contains an N-terminal signal peptide with a consensus signal cleavage site, followed by an emilin (EMI) domain, several coiled-coil domains, a proline-rich region, a collagen-like coiled-coil alpha-helical region, and a C-terminal C1q domain. The mature 1,023-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 112 kD. EMILIN2 also has 8 potential N-glycosylation sites and 20 cysteines, a number of which are clustered as doublets that may form intramolecular disulfide bonds. RNA dot blot analysis detected high EMILIN1 expression in fetal heart and adult lung. Intermediate expression was detected in peripheral leukocytes, placenta, and spinal cord, and low expression was detected in fetal brain, spleen, thymus, and lung, and in adult heart, aorta, testis, bone marrow, small intestine, thymus, lymph node, and appendix.
