Elastin Microfibril Interface Located Protein 3 (EMILIN3)

EMILIN3 has an N-terminal signal peptide, followed by an emilin (EMI) domain and 4 coiled-coil regions, but it lacks a C-terminal domain found in EMILIN1 and EMILIN2. The EMI domain contains 7 conserved cysteines that may mediate dimerization. In situ hybridization of day-9.5 mouse embryos detected expression only in the tail bud and hindgut. With the onset of skeletal development, transcripts were also found at sites of cartilage and bone formation in the trunk, limbs, skull, and jaw.

At later developmental stages, Emilin3 was expressed in the nervous plexus of the digestive tract and in the main bronchial branches.The deduced 766-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 82.5 kD.
