Epsin 2 (EPN2)

EHB21; Eps15 Binding Protein 2; EPS-15-interacting protein 2

Epsin 2 (EPN2)
EPN2 encodes a protein which interacts with clathrin and adaptor-related protein complex 2, alpha 1 subunit. The protein is found in a brain-derived clathrin-coated vesicle fraction and localizes to the peri-Golgi region and the cell periphery. The protein is thought to be involved in clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Alternate splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms. The deduced 431-amino acid EPN2 protein has a domain structure similar to that of EPN1, consisting of an epsin N-terminal homology (ENTH) region, a central region containing DPW repeats and an LLDL clathrin-binding sequence, and a C-terminal EPS15 homology (EH) domain-binding region containing 3 NPF repeats. However, unlike EPN1, EPN2 has no CDC2 phosphorylation site.
