Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 4E3 (EIF4E3)

Eukaryotic Translation Initiation Factor 4E3 (EIF4E3)
EIF4E3 belongs to the EIF4E family of translational initiation factors that interact with the 5-prime cap structure of mRNA and recruit mRNA to the ribosome.
Joshi et al. (2004) cloned mouse Eif4e3. The deduced 207-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 27 kD and has residues required for interaction with Eif4g and Eif4ebp. Northern blot analysis detected high expression in mouse heart and skeletal muscle, with weaker expression in lung and spleen. EST database analysis suggested that EIF4E3 is present only in chordates.Joshi et al. (2004) demonstrated that mouse Eif4e3 could bind the mRNA cap structure. It also interacted with Eif4g, but not with Eif4ebp.
