Exocyst Complex Component 6 (EXOC6)
EXOC6 is highly similar to the protein encoded by Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEC15 gene. This protein is essential for vesicular traffic from the Golgi apparatus to the cell surface in yeast. It is one of the components of a multiprotein complex required for exocytosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.Wang et al. (2004) noted that exocyst subunits have been found to associate with a subset of Golgi-derived vesicles and plasma membrane fractions in epithelial cell lines from several mammalian species. They found that several endogenous exocyst subunits, including Sec15, colocalized with microtubules and mitotic spindles in normal rat kidney cells. Deletion of Sec15 diminished the ability of the exocyst to inhibit tubulin polymerization.
