FYVE, RhoGEF And PH Domain Containing Protein 5 (FGD5)

ZFYVE23; Zinc finger FYVE domain-containing protein 23

FYVE, RhoGEF And PH Domain Containing Protein 5 (FGD5)
FGD5 may activate CDC42, a member of the Ras like family of Rho and Rac proteins, by exchanging bound GDP for free GTP. It may also play a role in regulating the actin cytoskeleton and cell shape. FGD5 contains one DH (DBL-homology) domain one FYVE type zinc finger and two PH domains. There are two isoforms.
The gene contains 22 different gt-ag introns. Transcription produces 6 different mRNAs, 5 alternatively spliced variants and 1 unspliced form. There are 4 probable alternative promotors and 8 validated alternative polyadenylation sites. The mRNAs appear to differ by truncation of the 5' end, presence or absence of 2 cassette exons, overlapping exons with different boundaries. 207 bp of this gene are antisense to spliced gene Transposase_1.8, raising the possibility of regulated alternate expression.
