CGI-90; RMD-1; Regulator of microtubule dynamics protein 1

Family With Sequence Similarity 82, Member B (FAM82B)
RMD1, encoding a deduced 293-amino acid protein with multiple coiled-coil domains. By database searching, they identified 5 proteins related to RMD1 in C. elegans as well as putative homologs in human, mouse, Xenopus, and zebrafish, but not in Drosophila or yeast.
Three human homologs were identified: RMD1, RMD2 (FAM82A), and RMD3 (FAM82C). RMD1 encodes a deduced 314-amino acid protein with multiple coiled-coil domains. The human and C. elegans RMD1 proteins localize to spindle microtubules and spindle poles. C. elegans RMD1 binds to aurora B, a regulatory factor needed for correct attachments in the spindle, in vitro. Cosedimentation assays showed that human RMD proteins interact with microtubules
