Family With Sequence Similarity 90, Member A5 (FAM90A5)

Family With Sequence Similarity 90, Member A5 (FAM90A5)
FAM90A5 belongs to subfamily II of the primate-specific FAM90A gene family, which originated from multiple duplications and rearrangements. For background information on the FAM90A gene family, as well as information on the evolution of FAM90A genes.FAM90A5 gene contains 5 exons. Exon 1 is noncoding and contains a LINE element, L1MB3, and the sequence 3-prime of the last exon includes a long terminal repeat of the ERV-K family. Like other members of FAM90A subfamily II, FAM90A5 lacks repetitive sequences at its 5-prime end.The deduced 434-amino acid FAM90A5 protein contains a CCHC-type zinc finger motif, suggesting that it may interact with RNA or DNA. RT-PCR using primers that did not distinguish between individual FAM90A genes suggested that members of FAM90A subfamily II, such as FAM90A5, are ubiquitously expressed.
