Family With Sequence Similarity 90, Member A1 (FAM90A1)

Family With Sequence Similarity 90, Member A1 (FAM90A1)
FAM90A1 belongs to subfamily I of the primate-specific FAM90A gene family, which originated from multiple duplications and rearrangements .The deduced 464-amino acid FAM90A1 protein contains a CCHC-type zinc finger motif, suggesting that it may interact with RNA or DNA. RT-PCR detected FAM90A1 expression in all 13 human tissues examined.
FAM90A1 gene contains 7 exons. The first 3 exons are noncoding, and exon 3 is alternatively spliced. The first 1 kb of FAM90A1, including exon 1 and AluSx and MIRb repetitive elements within intron 1, constitutes a segmental duplication found at multiple locations on different chromosomes, including an intron of the ALG1 gene. Exon 2 contains a LINE element, L1MB3, and the sequence 3-prime of the last exon includes a long terminal repeat of the ERV-K family.
