Fer Tyrosine Kinase (FER)
Fer protein is a member of the FPS/FES family of nontransmembrane receptor tyrosine kinases. It regulates cell-cell adhesion and mediates signaling from the cell surface to the cytoskeleton via growth factor receptors.cell-permeable (Trojan) peptides containing the third helix of the antennapedia homeodomain fused to a peptide mimicking the juxtamembrane (JMP) region of the cytoplasmic domain of N-cadherin (CDH2) result in the inhibition of both CDH2 and beta-1 integrin (ITGB1) function. Microscopic analysis showed that expression of JMP, which binds to the cytoplasmic domain of CDH2, results in a reduction of neurite outgrowth on cadherin substrates. Treatment of cells with JMP resulted in the release of FER from the cadherin complex and its accumulation in the integrin complex.
