Follistatin Like Protein 5 (FSTL5)

FSTL5 contains 28 different introns. Transcription produces 10 alternatively spliced mRNAs. There are 6 probable alternative promotors, 4 non overlapping alternative last exons and 4 validated alternative polyadenylation sites . The mRNAs appear to differ by truncation of the 5' end, truncation of the 3' end, presence or absence of 4 cassette exons, overlapping exons with different boundaries. 619 bp of this gene are antisense to spliced gene floberbo, raising the possibility of regulated alternate expression.
Proteins are expected to have molecular function (calcium ion binding) and to localize in various compartments (cytoplasm, extracellular). This gene's in vivo function is yet unknown.
