Forkhead Box Protein S1 (FOXS1)
The 'forkhead' family of transcription factors belongs to the winged helix class of DNA-binding proteins. By screening an adipose tissue library with a mixture of conserved forkhead domains from several gene family members, Cederberg et al. (1997) isolated cDNAs corresponding to a gene that they designated freac10, or FKHL18.
Dot blot analysis of mRNA from 50 human tissues revealed that FKHL18 is expressed predominantly in the aorta and, to a lesser degree, in the kidney. By analysis of a somatic cell hybrid panel and by fluorescence in situ hybridization, Cederberg et al. (1997) mapped the FKHL18 gene to 20q11.1-q11.2.
