Formin Like Protein 1 (FMNL1)

FMNL1 encodes a formin-related protein. Formin-related proteins have been implicated in morphogenesis, cytokinesis, and cell polarity. An alternative splice variant has been described but its full length sequence has not been determined.Frl is expressed as a 160-kD cytosolic protein that is highly expressed in spleen, lymph node, and bone marrow cells and that it associates with Rac and profilin.

By sequencing a recombinant cosmid library, Aronsson et al. (1998) identified 2 genes, NIK and C17ORF1B. Northern blot analysis revealed that C17ORF1B is expressed as a 1.8-kb transcript in heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, and pancreas.
