G Protein Coupled Receptor 83 (GPR83)

GIR; GPR72

G Protein Coupled Receptor 83 (GPR83)
Using PCR, De Moerlooze et al. (2000) obtained a brain cDNA encoding GPR83, the human ortholog of the mouse Gir gene. GPR83 encodes a deduced 423-amino acid protein that is approximately 90% identical to the mouse protein.
Using degenerate primers based on the extracellular loop and transmembrane regions of Y receptors,Parker et al. (2000) cloned GPR83, which they called GPR72, from a pooled cDNA library.
The deduced 423-amino acid protein shares 85% and 36% identity with mouse Gir and the human Y2 neuropeptide receptor NPT2R, respectively. Northern blot analysis showed that GPR83 is expressed exclusively in brain.GPR83 gene contains 4 exons.
