Gasdermin B (GSDMB)

GSDML; Gasdermin-Like

Gasdermin B (GSDMB)
GSDMB encodes a member of the gasdermin-domain containing protein family. Other gasdermin-family genes are implicated in the regulation of apoptosis in epithelial cells, and are linked to cancer. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Additional variants have been described, but they are candidates for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) and are unlikely to be protein-coding.
GSDML is relatively divergent from other members of the GSDM family in human and rodents, and it lacks the central leucine zipper found in GSDM1. No GSDML ortholog was identified in the rat and mouse genomes. By database and sequence analysis, Tamura et al. (2007) identified several members of the GSDM family, including GSDMB. Tamura et al. (2007) also failed to identify a GSDMB ortholog in rat and mouse.
