General Transcription Factor IIE, Polypeptide 2 (GTF2E2)
Transcription factor II E (TFIIE) is one of several general transcription factors that make up the RNA polymerase II preinitiation complex.Transcription Factor II E is encoded by the GTF2E1 and GTF2E2 genes.
TFIIE is thought to be involved in DNA melting at the promoter: it contains a zinc ribbon motif that can bind single stranded DNA. Imbert et al. (1996) studied the chromosomal region 8p21-p12 by constructing an integrated physical and genetic map extending from the genes NEFL located at 8p21, to FGFR1 located at 8p11.2-p11.1. The map comprised a series of contigs of YACs. Imbert et al. (1996) precisely mapped the GTFE2 gene within the YAC contigs.
