Golgi SNAP Receptor Complex Member 1 (GOSR1)
GOSR1 encodes a trafficking membrane protein which transports proteins among the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi and between Golgi compartments. This protein is considered an essential component of the Golgi SNAP receptor (SNARE) complex. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been found for this gene.
Sequence analysis revealed that the predicted protein contained a central coiled-coil domain and a C-terminal membrane anchor. The authors found that GS28 is a core component of the Golgi 20S SNARE complex that participates in the docking or fusion stage of endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi transport. The deduced 250-amino acid human protein is 97% identical to rat GS28.
