Growth Arrest And DNA Damage Inducible Protein Gamma Interacting Protein 1 (GADD45gIP1)
Inactivation of the p53 tumor suppressor protein (TP53) has been observed in a large number of human cancers. Overexpression of p53 induces either growth arrest or apoptosis. The growth arrest function of p53 is mediated by induction of p21 (CDKN1A). PRG6 was downregulated in the apoptotic cells. Northern blot analysis of the colon cancer cell line detected a 0.8-kb PRG6 transcript.
GADD45GIP1 expression suppressed cell growth in human ovarian and cervical cancer cell lines in vitro and in vivo. NAC1 (BTBD14B), which increases the tumorigenicity of ovarian surface epithelial cells and NIH3T3 cells in athymic nu/nu mice, downregulated the expression of endogenous GADD45GIP1.
