Histone Cluster 1, H2bd (HIST1H2BD)

H2BFB; H2B/b; H2B Histone Family Member B

Histone Cluster 1, H2bd (HIST1H2BD)
The chromatin fiber is further compacted through the interaction of a linker histone, H1, with the DNA between the nucleosomes to form higher order chromatin structures. This gene is intronless and encodes a member of the histone H2B family. Two transcripts that encode the same protein have been identified for this gene, which is found in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6p22-p21.3.
Albig et al. (1991) identified a gene encoding a member of the H2B class of histones and designated it H2B.1B. Albig and Doenecke (1997) designated this gene H2B/b.By analysis of a YAC contig, Albig et al. (1997) mapped the H2B/b gene to chromosome 6p21.3, within a cluster of 35 histone genes.
