Homeobox Protein A10 (HOXA10)

HOX1H; HOX1

Homeobox Protein A10 (HOXA10)
This gene is part of the A cluster on chromosome 7 and encodes a DNA-binding transcription factor that may regulate gene expression, morphogenesis, and differentiation. More specifically, it may function in fertility, embryo viability, and regulation of hematopoietic lineage commitment. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described. HOXA10 expression decreased in the midsecretory phase, coinciding with high serum progesterone levels. Treatment of primary myometrial cell cultures with progesterone decreased HOXA10 expression in vitro, paralleling the expression seen in vivo. The authors concluded that the differential tissue-specific response of HOXA10 in response to progesterone is likely mediated by sex steroid receptor coactivators or corepressors.
