By large-scale sequencing of clones obtained from testis cDNA library, Wiemann et al. (2001) isolated IQCG, which they designated DKFZp434B227. The deduced 443-amino acid protein shares significant similarity with nematode paramyosin, suggesting it has a role in cell structure and motility.By genomic sequence analysis, Wiemann et al. (2001) mapped the IQCG gene to chromosome 3q29.
IQCH shares 68% and 57% amino acid identity with its mouse and rat orthologs, respectively. RT-PCR detected IQCH expression in adult testis, but not in 15 other tissues examined. IQCH was expressed in normal human spermatozoa, but not in testis of patients with Sertoli cell-only syndrome .
