Jerky Homolog Like Protein (JRKL)

HHMJG; Human homolog of mouse jerky gene protein

Jerky Homolog Like Protein (JRKL)
Toth et al. (1995) found that inactivation of the mouse 'jerky' gene results in epileptic seizures. See 603210. Zeng et al. (1997) identified a human tonsil cDNA encoding a protein similar to jerky. They designated the predicted 442-amino acid protein HHMJG (human homolog of mouse jerky gene).
The HHMJG and mouse jerky proteins are 35% identical. Northern blot analysis revealed that HHMJG is abundantly expressed as a 4-kb mRNA in various tissues. In testis, an additional 2-kb transcript is present. By fluorescence in situ hybridization, Zeng et al. (1997) mapped the HHMJG gene to 11q21.
