Kinesin Family, Member 3C (KIF3C)

Kinesin-like protein KIF3C

Kinesin Family, Member 3C (KIF3C)
By screening a human fetal brain cDNA library with probes based on a sequence in the expressed sequence tag (EST) database, Telford et al. (1998) cloned a novel kinesin-related gene. The full-length cDNA sequence predicted a 793-amino acid polypeptide that was 98% identical to that of the mouse KIF3C gene. By PCR and DNA sequence analysis of PAC clones, Telford et al. (1998) found that the human KIF3C gene consists of 8 exons spanning 12 kb. Northern blot analysis revealed that KIF3C expresses a 5.0-kb mRNA in brain and 3 smaller mRNAs in all tested tissues.
Telford et al. (1998) used fluorescence in situ hybridization to map the KIF3C gene to human chromosome 2p23. They used interspecific backcross analysis to map the gene to mouse chromosome 12.
