Kruppel Like Factor 17 (KLF17)

ZNF393; Zfp393; Zinc Finger Protein 393

Kruppel Like Factor 17 (KLF17)
KLF17, The deduced 389-amino acid protein contains 3 C-terminal Kruppel-like zinc fingers characteristic of the KLF family of transcription factors. Human and mouse ZNF393 share only 54.8% similarity overall, although they exhibit 81.5% similarity in their zinc fingers, including strict conservation of all zinc-chelating cysteine and histidine residues. EST database analysis suggested that ZNF393 is expressed in testis, brain, and bone. It encodes a protein of 341 amino acids that contains a proline- and serine-rich N terminus, a nuclear localization signal, and 3 C2H2 zinc fingers at the C terminus. Northern blot and RT-PCR analysis showed expression of a 2.5-kb transcript in testis and ovary and a 1.4-kb transcript in testis only.
