Leucine Rich Repeat And Ig Domain Containing Protein 2 (LINGO2)
By searching databases for genes similar to LRRN6A, Carim-Todd et al. (2003) identified LRRN6C. The deduced 606-amino acid protein, has an N-terminal leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain, followed by 10 typical LRR domains, a C-terminal LRR domain, an IgC2 domain, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail. It shares 60% amino acid identity with LRRN6A. LINGO1 mRNA levels were significantly increased in the substantia nigra from patients with Parkinson disease (PD) compared to controls. Lingo1-null mice had no gross anatomical abnormalities or physical or behavioral alterations, but showed a higher number of surviving TH-positive neurons after pharmacologic-induced neurodegeneration of dopamine cells compared to wildtype mice.
