Leucine Rich Repeat Containing Protein 8E (LRRC8E)

By searching protein and nucleotide databases for sequences similar to LRRC8 (LRRC8A), followed by RT-PCR of peripheral blood mononuclear cell and monocyte total RNA, Kubota et al. (2004) identified LRRC8E as FLJ23420. Semiquantitative PCR detected low LRRC8E expression in placenta, lung, liver, and pancreas.By genomic sequence analysis, Kubota et al. (2004) mapped the LRRC8E gene to chromosome 19p13.2. They mapped the mouse Lrrc8e gene to chromosome 8.

Transplantation experiments with murine bone marrow cells that were forced to express the truncated LRRC8 showed that expression of the truncated protein inhibited B cell development, producing a dominant-negative effect.
