Lipoyltransferase 2 (LIPT2)

Lipoate-protein ligase B; Lipoyl/octanoyl transferase; Octanoyl-[acyl-carrier-protein]-protein N-octanoyltransferase; Putative lipoyltransferase 2, mitochondrial

Lipoyltransferase 2 (LIPT2)
LIPT2, Belongs to the lipB family. Catalyzes the transfer of endogenously produced octanoic acid from octanoyl-acyl-carrier-protein onto the lipoyl domains of lipoate-dependent enzymes. Lipoyl-ACP can also act as a substrate although octanoyl-ACP is likely to be the physiological substrate
In mammals, lipoyltransferase (EC 2.3.1.181) catalyzes the second of 2 steps in the covalent attachment of lipoic acid to lipoate-dependent proteins, including the glycine cleavage system H protein (GCSH) and the dihydrolipoamide acyltransferase (E2) subunits of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (DLAT), the 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex (DLST), and the branched-chain 2-oxo acid dehydrogenase complex (DBT) .
