MAM Domain Containing Glycosylphosphatidylinositol Anchor 2 (MDGA2)

MAMDC1; MAM Domain Containing 1

MAM Domain Containing Glycosylphosphatidylinositol Anchor 2 (MDGA2)
The deduced 956-amino acid protein contains 6 Ig repeats and a highly conserved MAM (meprin, A5 protein, receptor protein tyrosine phosphatase mu) domain but lacks the fibronectin III domain found in MDGA1 . It also has several potential N-glycosylation sites and a C-terminal glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchoring site.
In situ hybridization detected predominantly expressed in the embryonic rat central and peripheral nervous system, with highest levels in the basilar pons and in the superficial layers of the neocortex, followed by hippocampus, amygdala, olfactory bulb, and selected nuclei of the thalamus. Mdga2 also showed restricted expression in the embryonic spinal cord.
