Marapsin 2 (MPN2)

PRSS38; Protease Serine 38

Marapsin 2 (MPN2)
Marapsin-2 is about 42% identical to marapsin-1, with different distribution. Marapsin-2 is thought to be one of a family of serine proteinases that regulate epithelial sodium channels.
The human marapsin-2 sequence codes for a protein of 326 amino acids, with a predicted mass of 35.36 kDa and a pI of 6.05. The protein is expressed in a secreted form, with a 33 amino acid signal sequence followed by a 25 amino acid propeptide domain. Marapsin-2 is glycosylated, and runs somewhat more slowly on a reduced SDS PAGE gel than the predicted weight. Marapsin-2 is processed to a smaller form, typically around 34 kDa (although higher molecular weight complexes and lower molecular weight breakdown products may also be detected).
