Mediator Complex Subunit 10 (MED10)
MED10 is a component of the Mediator complex, which is a coactivator for DNA-binding factors that activate transcription via RNA polymerase II .Malik et al. (2000) isolated the MED10 protein from a Mediator-like complex in HeLa cells, and they cloned the corresponding cDNA.
HeLa cell Mediator-like positive cofactor complex-2 (PC2), which contained MED10, had little coactivator function alone, but synergized with PC3/topoisomerase I (TOP1) and PC4 (SUB1)to activate transcription of a target gene by VP16, a herpes simplex virus transcriptional activator.Using HeLa cells overexpressing epitope-tagged MED10, Sato et al. (2003) purified several components of the human Mediator complex, including MED11, MED18, and MED19.
