Mediator Complex Subunit 12 Like Protein (MED12L)

The deduced 1,435-amino acid protein shares 57% identity with TRAP230 (MED12). RT-PCR ELISA detected moderate MED12L expression in adult brain and testis and in fetal liver and brain. Expression was low in adult kidney and ovary, with little to no expression in all other tissues examined. Moderate expression was detected in all adult brain regions examined and in spinal cord. By searching for genes in the USH3 critical region of chromosome 3, followed by RT-PCR and RACE of placenta and retina cDNA libraries, Joensuu et al. (2001) cloned 2 splice variants of MED12L, which they called NOPAR. The deduced 721- and 756-amino acid proteins share 61% identity with the N terminus of TRAP230. Northern blot analysis detected widespread NOPAR expression, and RT-PCR detected NOPAR in retina.
