Methyltransferase Like Protein 2A (METTL2A)

Methyltransferase Like Protein 2A (METTL2A)
METTL2 is a member of a family of methyltransferases that share homology with, but are distinct from, the UbiE family of methyltransferases. Alternatively spliced variants which encode different protein isoforms have been described; however, not all variants have been fully characterized.
Zhang et al. (2001) cloned Metl from a Drosophila cDNA library. By database analysis, they identified a homologous human sequence that encodes a deduced 242-amino acid protein.Zhang et al. (2001) determined that Drosophila Metl interacts with the loop region of PSEN1 and PSEN2. Metl was broadly expressed during Drosophila development, and in the central nervous system, expression of Metl colocalized with expression of presenilin.
