Mitochondrial Ribonuclease P Protein 3 (MRPP3)

The 3-prime UTR contains several repetitive elements, and the deduced protein contains 567 amino acids. RT-PCR detected abundant MRPP3 expression in thymus, lower expression in kidney, testis, prostate, and ovary, and little to no expression in other tissues examined.

Kamnasaran et al. (2003) identified a microdeletion within intron 3 of the KIAA0391 gene in an individual with schizophrenia who also carried a chromosome 14 translocation affecting the NPAS3 gene. The microdeletion in KIAA0391, which had an estimated maximum size of 22 kb, was in a region containing several possible transcription factor-binding sites. It was not present in the patient's mother, who also had schizophrenia and carried the chromosome 14 translocation.
