Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein L49 (MRPL49)
MRPL49 encodes a 39S subunit protein. This gene and the gene for the HRD1 protein use in their respective 3' UTRs some of the same genomic sequence. Pseudogenes corresponding to this gene are found on chromosomes 5q and 8p. The deduced 166-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 19.2 kD and contains 2 potential phosphorylation sites for protein kinase C and one for casein kinase II, and a potential N-myristoylation site. Northern blot analysis revealed ubiquitous expression of a 2.2-kb transcript.the NOF and FAU genes are oriented in a head-to-head configuration, separated by a common promoter region of a maximum of 146 nucleotides. The NOF promoter lacks a TATA box and CAAT element, but contains several GC boxes.NOF was not affected by the t(11;17) translocation in a patient with B-NHL.
