Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S11 (MRPS11)
MRPS11encodes a 28S subunit protein that contains a high level of sequence similarity with ribosomal protein S11P family members. A pseudogene corresponding to this gene is found on chromosome 20. Sequence analysis identified two transcript variants that encode different protein isoforms.
MRPS11 is 1 of more than 70 protein components of mitochondrial ribosomes that are encoded by the nuclear genome. The deduced 194-amino acid MRPS11 protein has a calculated molecular mass of 20.6 kD. Removal of a predicted 28-amino acid N-terminal mitochondrial localization signal results in a mature 17.4-kD protein. MRPS11 orthologs in mouse, Drosophila, C. elegans, yeast, and E. coli. Mouse and human MRPS11 share 74.4% amino acid identity.
