Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S30 (MRPS30)

MRPS30 encodes a 28S subunit protein that is similar to the chicken pro-apoptotic protein p52. Transcript variants using alternative promoters or polyA sites have been mentioned in the literature but the complete description of these sequences is not available.

Mitochondria have their own translation system for production of 13 proteins essential for oxidative phosphorylation. MRPS30 is 1 of more than 70 protein components of mitochondrial ribosomes that are encoded by the nuclear genome. The deduced 439-amino acid MRPS30 protein has a calculated molecular mass of 50.4 kD.
