Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S35 (MRPS35)

MRPS28; S35mt; 28S ribosomal protein S28, mitochondrial

Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S35 (MRPS35)
MRPS35 encodes a 28S subunit protein that has had confusing nomenclature in the literature. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Pseudogenes corresponding to this gene are found on chromosomes 3p, 5q, and 10q.
The deduced 323-amino acid MRPS35 protein has a calculated molecular mass of 36.8 kD. Removal of a predicted 29-amino acid N-terminal mitochondrial localization signal results in a mature 33.8-kD protein. Koc et al. (2001) identified MRPS35 orthologs in mouse, Drosophila, C. elegans, and yeast, but not in E. coli. Mouse and human MRPS35 share 76.8% amino acid identity.
