Mitotic Spindle Organizing Protein 2B (MZT2B)

Using SDS-PAGE, Hutchins et al. (2010) found that MOZART2B had an apparent molecular mass of about 16.2 kD. Using gene tagging on BACs, protein localization, and tandem-affinity purification-mass spectrometry, Hutchins et al. (2010) showed that MOZART1 (C13ORF37), MOZART2A, and MOZART2B (FAM128B; 613450) copurified with subunits of the gamma-tubulin ring complex (gamma-TuRC), which is essential for spindle assembly and chromosome segregation.

When MOZART1 and MOZART2B were used as baits, all 6 gamma-TuRC subunits were identified. MOZART1 and MOZART2B were located on centrosomes throughout the cell cycle and, to a lesser extent, on mitotic spindles of synchronized HeLa cells.
