Mix1 Homeobox Like Protein 1 (MIXL1)

MIXL1, The deduced 232-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 27 kD. MIXL contains an N-terminal proline-rich domain, a central Mix-like homeodomain, and a C-terminal acidic domain. Northern blot analysis of hematopoietic tissues detected MIXL transcripts of 2.85, 2.4, and 1.9 kb. Expression was highest in lymph node, spleen, and bone marrow, with little to no expression in thymus, peripheral blood leukocytes, and fetal liver. Western blot analysis detected MIXL at an apparent molecular mass of 36 kD in transfected 293T cells. Expression of MIXL in cell lines derived from hematopoietic malignancies appeared to correlate with malignancies of early progenitors of myeloid, erythroid, and B- and T-cell lymphoid lineages.
