Monoacylglycerol-O-acyltransferase 1 (MOGAT1)
The deduced 335-amino acid protein contains a phosphate acyltransferase-like domain, 2 potential N-linked glycosylation sites, and a potential tyrosine phosphorylation site. Immunofluorescence studies of Mogat1 expression in COS-7 cells demonstrated a pattern consistent with localization in the endoplasmic reticulum. Northern blot analysis detected high expression of Mogat1 in the stomach and kidney, lower expression in white and brown adipose tissue, uterus, and liver, and no expression in the small intestine.
The increase in activity was proportional to the level of Mogat1 protein expressed, and the amount of diacylglycerol produced depended on the concentration of the substrates oleoyl-CoA or monooleoylglycerol.
