Myosin Light Chain 5, Regulatory (MYL5)
MYLC2; Myosin regulatory light chain 5; Superfast myosin regulatory light chain 2
MYL5 encodes one of the myosin light chains, a component of the hexameric ATPase cellular motor protein myosin. Myosin is composed of two heavy chains, two nonphosphorylatable alkali light chains, and two phosphorylatable regulatory light chains.
This gene product, one of the regulatory light chains, is expressed in fetal muscle and in adult retina, cerebellum, and basal ganglia.Analysis of both nucleotide and predicted amino acid sequences suggested that this gene encodes a novel myosin light chain isoprotein, MYL5. Identical cDNAs were isolated from human adult retina and fetal muscle cDNA libraries. Expression of the gene was detected in adult retina, cerebellum, basal ganglia, and fetal skeletal muscle. MYL5 is a regulatory light chain of the MLC2 type.
