Myosin VC (MYO5C)

The MYO5C protein consists of a motor domain followed by 6 IQ motifs, a coiled-coil region, and a C-terminal globular domain. MYO5C contains a serine residue conserved among all 3 class V myosins whose phosphorylation in MYO5A regulates melanosome binding; however, MYO5C does not contain the PEST region present in MYO5A and MYO5B.

Northern and dot blot analyses showed expression of an 8.7-kb MYO5C transcript in salivary gland, stomach, colon, pancreas, lung, thyroid, prostate, and mammary gland. Immunolocalization in mouse tissues detected abundant Myo5c protein expression in pancreas, colon, and stomach. Myo5c was found specifically in the apical regions of intestinal epithelial cells and in exocrine pancreas.
