NADH Dehydrogenase Ubiquinone 1 Beta Subcomplex 10 (NDUFb10)
The multisubunit NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex I) is the first enzyme complex in the electron transport chain of mitochondria. By a combination of EST database searching and PCR, Loeffen et al. (1998) isolated human cDNAs encoding NDUFB10 and 7 other complex I subunits. The predicted 172-amino acid human protein is 82% identical to PDSW, the bovine homolog. Hydropathy analysis revealed that NDUFB10 and 4 other subunits have an overall hydrophilic pattern, even though they are found within the hydrophobic protein (HP) fraction of complex I. By radiation hybrid analysis, Emahazion et al. (1998) mapped the NDUFB10 gene to 16p13.3.Smeitink and van den Heuvel (1999) reviewed the available molecular data regarding the human nuclear-encoded complex I subunits.
