NADH Dehydrogenase Ubiquinone 1 Subcomplex 2 (NDUFC2)
The NDUF2 gene encodes one of the subunits of complex I, the first and largest complex of the mitochondrial respiratory chain.Accessory subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I), that is believed not to be involved in catalysis. Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone.
The multisubunit NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase is the first enzyme complex in the electron transport chain of mitochondria. Loeffen et al. (1998) isolated human cDNAs encoding NDUFC2 and 7 other complex I subunits. The predicted 119-amino acid human protein is 74% identical to B14.5B, the bovine homolog.
