NCK Associated Protein 1 (NCKAP1)
NCKAP1 is a predicted type II transmembrane protein, with a C-terminal transmembrane domain. NCKAP1 was expressed at a higher level in adult brain than in fetal brain. In situ hybridization of human brain indicated that NCKAP1 is expressed predominantly in neuronal cells.NCKAP1 transcript in all tissues examined except peripheral blood leukocytes, with highest expression in brain, heart, and skeletal muscle. In the brain, NCKAP1 transcripts were present in all subregions examined, with slightly higher expression in the amygdala and hippocampus, which have dense populations of neurons. The deduced 1,128-amino acid NCKAP1 protein shares 99.2% amino acid sequence identity with rat Nck-associated protein-1 (Nap1); thus, the authors referred to NCKAP1 as NAP1.
