The deduced full-length 988-amino acid protein has repeats of (S/T)Pxx, which is a putative DNA-binding domain, and it has a putative nuclear localization signal near the C terminus. The deduced 982-amino acid protein shares 74% identity with mouse Narg2. No NARG2 orthologs were found in yeast, nematode, fly, or fish databases. Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected significant NARG2 expression in fetal kidney, liver, lung, and brain, and in adult testis, but little or no expression in the adult counterparts or in other adult tissues examined. Epitope-tagged mouse Narg2 localized to the nucleus of transfected rat kidney fibroblasts.Narg2 expression was downregulated following retinoic acid-induced neuronal differentiation.
