Non SMC Condensin II Complex Subunit D3 (NCAPD3)

CAP-D3; hCAP-D3; hHCP-6; hcp-6; Condensin-2 complex subunit D3

Non SMC Condensin II Complex Subunit D3 (NCAPD3)
Condensin complexes I and II play essential roles in mitotic chromosome assembly and segregation. Both condensins contain 2 invariant structural maintenance of chromosome (SMC) subunits, SMC2 and SMC4, but they contain different sets of non-SMC subunits. NCAPD3 is 1 of 3 non-SMC subunits that define condensin II. The deduced protein contains 1,507 amino acids. Northern blot analysis detected intermediate expression in placenta, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, prostate, and colon, and low expression in heart, brain, pancreas, thymus, testis, and ovary. No expression was detected in spleen, small intestine, and peripheral blood leukocytes. The 1,498-amino acid CAPD3 protein contains 4 central HEAT repeats, 4 C-terminal HEAT repeats, and a C-terminal cluster of CDC2 phosphorylation sites.
