Non SMC Condensin II Complex Subunit H2 (NCAPH2)
Condensin complexes I and II play essential roles in mitotic chromosome assembly and segregation. Both condensins contain 2 invariant structural maintenance of chromosome (SMC) subunits, SMC2 and SMC4, but they contain different sets of non-SMC subunits.
NCAPH2 is 1 of 3 non-SMC subunits that define condensin II.Ono et al. (2003) immunoprecipitated the condensin II complex from HeLa cell nuclear extracts and identified NCAPH2, which they called CAPH2, among its subunits. By sucrose gradient centrifugation of HeLa cell nuclear extracts and Western blot analysis, Ono et al. (2003) found that the condensin II-specific subunits CAPH2, CAPD3 (NCAPD3), and CAPG2 (NCAPG2) comigrated at about 13.5S.
